Project settings for a pixelart game on Godot
One of the first things to do when starting a video game is to review the project settings and adapt them to the game you're going to make, especially in terms of graphics and performance.
The first thing I had to decide was the resolution. Since I want it to look like pixel art but also want it to work well on modern displays (without sprite distortion), I had to choose carefully..
Searching the internet, I found this super useful table that indicates the resolutions with the highest compatibility rate for modern screen resolutions (do not confuse the game resolution with the screen resolution)

I saw that one of the most used resolutions for compatibility was 640x360 so after doing some art tests and being satisfied I decided that was the one I was going to use... but not everything is solved if what you want is for the sprites to keep the square pixels in motion.
After investigating some forums and doing some tests I saw that the best options to have a full screen at the resolution I wanted and that the sprites didn't do anything strange was to set the window options like this:

Then in Rendering in the 2D section I would also activate pixel snap, this causes the camera scroll to not be performed until it occupies a full game pixel (not by subpixel)

In order to be able to use some screen effects like bloom I also activated HDR:

And most importantly, there is no texture filtering to keep the pixel art look so cool, so in Default Texture Filter we put Nearest:

With these options, for now (I'm using Godot version 4.4.1), it seems the sprites aren't doing anything strange, either stationary or moving, as long as the window size is the last multiple of the resolution I chose. In other words, it will always look good in full screen, and if it's running in a window, you'll need to select the option to maintain resolution.
The result::

See you on next post!
Truth Bane
In a city of lies, someone tries to reveal the truth...and the truth is bloodier than you imagined.
